As part of Carmichael HART Winter Sanctuary, we will be hosting guests from Sunday, December 31, 2017 through Saturday, January 6, 2018. We need volunteers to fill various roles, dates, and times throughout the week. We also seek parishioners to share their heritage and gift for cooking of our Youth Ministry. The Youth Ministry will prepare meals in advance which will be served during one of the evening.
Carmichael HART (Homeless Assistance Resource Team) follows a model established in Elk Grove six years ago.The HART model is to work with those who desire to transition out of homelessness. For seven weeks, guests will check in and be screened at an intake center manned by the local LDS community. Accepted guests are then transported to the hosting church and are treated to warm meal, a comfortable night sleep, and bagged breakfast. At the end of the seven weeks winter sanctuary, Carmichael HART anticipates having a transitional home and employment opportunities available for three or four of the guest. The program will last three to six months and will provide employment and housing counseling along with mentoring and case management. Carmichael HART is made up of over a dozen local church communities.
